Sustainable food: what is it?

Following a sustainable diet is not so difficult, especially for those who, like us, have at their disposal the great variety of products included in the Mediterranean diet. Perfect for a sustainable diet because it contains little meat, many legumes and cereals, combined with seasonal vegetables and fruit. To choose sustainable food products it is essential to read the labels correctly, to understand the origin and production of the products. To make sure you contribute to your health and the planet’s health with your food choices, Greenpeace has compiled a list of rules and advice to follow for a healthy and sustainable diet including: choosing locally sourced seasonal fruit and vegetables, reducing consumption prefer organic eggs from free-range hens, consume no more than 600 grams of dairy products per week, buy local fish, use vegetable proteins such as legumes, cereals and dried fruit.[:]
